In 2016, at 37 years old, Daniel Bevan gave up fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) work to open up his own trade business from his home in Wurtulla – Advanced Group Edge Protection & Scaffolding.
The QLD gas plant inland from Roma, at which Daniel had been working as a FIFO worker before making the career change had been good to him and his family. The job had allowed his wife Ali to stay home to care for their two young boys, Koby and Chace, but as Daniel says, “the dollar’s not everything. You tend to miss out on a lot of things when you’re working FIFO.”
Daniel didn’t want to look back in a decade or more and realise he’d missed important milestones and a good chunk of his kids’ lives growing up. He wanted to be there for his family, and regain a better life/work balance which didn’t take him away from them for weeks at a time.
And so, the decision was made, and Advanced Group was born, allowing Daniel to put his 21 years of experience in fencing and scaffolding to good use as a self-employed trades business owner.

The decision to exit the FIFO life and become self-employed has proven to be the right path for Daniel and his family, business is booming, and his wife and kids are happy to have him home permanently.
Daniel has extensive experience in the scaffold industry and has obtained all necessary qualifications including, but not limited to: High Risk Work License, SA, RA, EWP, Forklift, Working at Heights, Advanced First Aid, B.A, Rope Rescue (QFRS credited), Confined Space Entry, Work Place Health and Safety Cert IV and BOIEST.
